Emilia Little League from Emilia, Italy will participate in the Little League Baseball® World Series for the second time in Little League® history after winning the 2016 Europe and Africa Region Tournament. Emilia defeated South Moravia Little League from Brno, Czech Republic, in the Championship Game on Saturday, July 23. Fourteen teams participated in the nine-day event held at the Little League Baseball European Leadership Training Center in Kutno, Poland.

This will be the third time that a team from Italy will travel to South Williamsport to compete in the Little League Baseball World Series. Previously, the Aviano Air Force Base Little League represented Europe in 1979 and the same Emilia Little League sent a team to Williamsport in 2008. It will be the eighth time a team from Emilia Little League has competed in one of the nine Little League World Series tournaments, having sent teams in the past to the Junior League Baseball, Junior League Softball, Senior League Baseball, and Senior League Softball World Series.

Region runner-up South Moravia Little League is part of the growing Little League program in the Czech Republic. The league has made it to the Little League Baseball World Series twice, in both 2013 and 2014, and has also advanced to three straight Little League Intermediate (50/70) World Series tournaments, including this year’s competition, which will be held in Livermore, Calif., from July 31 to Aug. 7.

Europe and Africa Region Champion Emilia Little League will face the Australia Region Champion, represented in 2016 by Hills Little League from Sydney, on Thursday, August 18 at 5 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium. Spanning the course of 10 days, 32 games will be played in the 2016 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, culminating in the Championship Game, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 28.
