Little League CEO Stephen D. Keener Opens Annual Scholarship Luncheon

South Williamsport, PA - Stephen D. Keener talks about the Carl E. Stotz mission of 1939 as it has not changed over the many years. That mission is to give boys and girls an opportunity to benefit from participating in a healthy and fun activity.  That mission is really the purpose of Little League Baseball today, not the getting caught up in the excitement and glitz of the World Series. The Little League purpose is to provide a program that millions of kids can benefit from in 85 countries around the world. The vision, commitment and energy of Carl E. Stotz has been the overriding mission of Little League. We owe him a great deal of gratitude for getting this program started. We are blessed that he did this in Williamsport, PA.

Mr. Stotz knew it was very unlikely that these ball players would make it to the big leagues to make a living. But these kids can go on to become productive, contributing members of their communities. That is the purpose and that is why it is appropriate this scholarship program carries his name. That is what the ten young people here today are going to be asked to do as they graduate from high school and move on with their higher education. We think they will go on to make their marks in the world and they will be terrific marks.
