A happy ending for California coach who lost job during LLWS

The dugout coach for the California team in this year's Little League World Series can look forward to a Merry Christmas now that his jobless worries are history.

Jaime Ramirez was in South Williamsport with the Sweet Water Valley team when he learned by email his one-year contract with Altar Produce in Calexico, Calif., was not going to be renewed. Altar claimed the decision not to renew it had nothing to do with baseball.

Due to the outpouring of support when news spread about his job situation, Ramirez expressed confidence he would not be jobless long when he got home but he was wrong.

"We were living on fumes," Ramirez said in a telephone interview about the weeks after the series when he was out of work.
