South Nashville Little League wins the 2014 Southeast Region Championship, Advancing to the Little League Baseball® World Series

South Williamsport, PA - South Nashville outlasted Tuckahoe American on Friday after six lead changes, squeaking out a 9-4 win at Warner Robins, Ga., winning the Southeast Region Championship for the second year in a row.

South Nashville represented the Southeast Region at the 2013 Little League Baseball World Series, with a 2-2 record. Some of those who came to South Williamsport last year will make a return trip, including manager, Chris Mercado, and player, Blake Money. As Little League celebrates its 75th Anniversary at the 2014 Little League Baseball World Series, Blake will help mark one of the highlights in the history of Little League. From 2001 to 2008, President George W. Bush hosted Tee Ball on the South Lawn games at the White House. On July 16, 2008, Blake played in the final Tee Ball on the South Lawn game. He and his teammates from South Nashville will be the seventh team from Tennessee to advance to the World Series.

South Nashville finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fifth inning. An error scored Brian Garcia and gave South Nashville the lead for good.

Sam Slaughter racked up four RBIs on two hits for South Nashville. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fifth inning.

Tuckahoe American had no answer for Tyler Finley, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Tyler Finley held Tuckahoe American hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Bryce Safferwich racked up two RBIs on one hit for Tuckahoe American. He tripled in the fourth inning.

Josh Trentadue was charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out two.

The top of the first saw Tuckahoe American take an early lead, 1-0.

South Nashville scored two runs of its own in the first. South Nashville scored on and a wild pitch.

The fifth spelled defeat for Tuckahoe American, as South Nashville grabbed the lead for good. More runners rounded the bases on a home run by Slaughter and an RBI single by Barrett Smith.

The Southeast Region Champions will face the Mid-Atlantic Region Champions on Friday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. at Lamade Stadium, airing on ESPN. The Mid-Atlantic Region Championship Game will be decided on August 10 in Bristol, Conn.. All games at the Little League Baseball World Series will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks, the Watch ESPN app or ABC.

The 68th Little League Baseball World Series begins on Thursday, Aug. 14 in South Williamsport, Pa., with the Championship Game scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, airing on ABC. The World Series will culminate the year-long celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Little League.
