Perth Metro Northern Crowned Little League Baseball® Australia Region Champions

Perth Metro Northern Little League from Western Australia has beaten 20 teams to be crowned the Little League Baseball® Australia Region Champion at the 2014 Australian Little League National Championships. The six-day event held at Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast, rounded up Sunday, June 8, with Perth Metro Northern LL defeating Manly 3-2 in a thrilling championship game.

As the fastest growing Little League® country in the world, Australia’s Championship team receives automatic qualification to play in the Little League Baseball World Series in South Williamsport, Pa. Perth Metro Northern will participate in this opportunity of a lifetime with the all-expenses paid trip to the Little League Baseball World Series in August 2014.

Swan Hills was awarded third place at this year’s championship, but there was an exceptional level of participation and skill displayed from all twenty teams competing: Adelaide North, Adelaide South, Brisbane Metro, Brisbane North, Brisbane South, Canberra, Perth Metro Central (WA), Cronulla North, Eastern (WA), Gold Coast, Hills North (NSW), Macarthur, Manly, Northern (VIC), Northern Metro (WA), Ryde North, Sunraysia, Swan Hills, West Coast, and Yarra.

In a sport that has been built internationally for 75 years on participation and community, the Sportsmanship Award is as highly regarded as taking home the championship trophy. The teams, volunteers and event officials voted Swan Hills as participating throughout the entire event within the highest spirit of Little League.

Australian Little League is renowned for its high quality of sportsmanship and a no-alternative approach to positive participation by players, coaches, parents and spectators. This spirit was recognized internationally in 2013 when the Perth Metro Central Little Leaguers from Western Australia were awarded the Sportsmanship Award at the Little League Baseball World Series.

The 68th Little League Baseball World Series begins on Thursday, Aug. 14 in South Williamsport, Pa., with the Championship Game scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24. The first-round pairings will be announced after the Little League World Series luncheon on Wednesday, June 11.
