Puerto Rico Wins Caribbean Region Championship to Advance to 2013 Little League Baseball® World Series

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (July 23, 2013) –Samaritana Little League from San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico will represent the Caribbean Region at the 2013 Little League Baseball® World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.

The team from Puerto Rico defeated Pariba Little League from Willemsted, Curacao on Saturday, July 19, 6-4, at the Caribbean Region Tournament in Bonaire. This is the ninth time a team from Puerto Rico has advanced to South Williamsport in the 67-year history of the Little League Baseball World Series, and the first trip for Samaritana Little League.

“We are excited to welcome Puerto Rico back to the Little League Baseball World Series,” said Patrick Wilson, Little League Baseball and Softball Senior Vice President and International Tournament Director. “Puerto Rico played in the first World Series held at Lamade Stadium in 1959, and we’re thrilled to see them compete this year.”

The team from San Lorenzo finished with a 1-2 record in pool play, but outscored opponents 28-5 in their last three games to capture the Caribbean Region banner, defeating defending champion, Pariba Little League, in the championship game. Learn more about the Caribbean Region Tournament.

Samaritana Little League will face the Latin America Region Champion in the very first game of the 2013 Little League Baseball World Series on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium. The Latin America Region Championship will be decided on Saturday, July 27 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Learn more about the Latin America Region Tournament.
