Two Little League® World Series Coaches Win Positive Coach Alliance Double-Goal Coach Awards

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (March 19, 2019) – Two iconic coaches from the 2018 Little League® World Series were recently recognized for their dedication to youth sports as winners of the 2019 National Double-Goal Coach® Award by the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA).

Gerald Oda, manager of the 2018 Little League Baseball World Series Champion Honolulu (Hawaii) Little League team, and Antonio Roman, coach for the 2018 Junior League Softball World Series Keystone/West Tampa/Bayshore (Fla.) Little League team, were selected as two of 50 recipients among a pool of nearly 1,000 nominees to earn the prestigious honor.

MLB and Little League® Expand Relationship with Joint Sponsorship Agreement

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (March 15, 2019) – In an expanded effort to grow the games of baseball and softball around the world, Little League® International and Major League Baseball have announced an expansion to their official partnership with the creation of a Joint Sponsorship Agreement. Effective immediately, Major League Baseball and Little League International will collaboratively oversee Little League Baseball and Softball’s official sponsor program. This relationship continues Little League and MLB’s combined efforts to find new ways to enhance and expand opportunities for boys and girls around the world to enjoy the benefits of playing baseball and softball. Little League International will continue to work directly with its endemic sponsors and licensees while MLB will grant official sponsorship rights to non-endemic sponsors on behalf of Little League.

Thousands of Little Leaguers® to Enjoy Unique Experiences at 2019 Little League® Urban Initiative Jamborees

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (March 12, 2019) – Over the next few months, more than a thousand Little Leaguers in metropolitan areas and underserved communities across the United States will have the unique opportunity to participate in a Little League® Urban Initiative Jamboree.

Little League® Urban Initiative Jamborees provide tournament atmosphere and memorable experiences to children in metropolitan areas and underserved communities across the United States.

Established in 2004, the Little League Urban Initiative Jamboree offers boys and girls across the nation participating in Little League Urban Initiative programs the opportunity to compete, make new friends, and forge lifelong memories.

Jessie Lahr Named Administrative Assistant for the Little League® Risk Management Department

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.  – Little League® International has officially announced the hiring of Jessie Lahr as the Administrative Assistant for the Risk Management Department.

“We are honored to welcome Jessie to our team here in Williamsport and are looking forward to her support in providing our local leagues all around the world with a meaningful and memorable experience,” said Karl Eckweiler, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. “Jessie’s background as a Youth Outreach Coordinator, combined with her dedicated work ethic and previous experience, will help us to continue to provide our local leagues with the resources and tools necessary to operate effectively and efficiently.”

Prior to joining Little League International, Ms. Lahr served as an Assistant General Manager and Event Coordinator for The Liberty Arena in Williamsport, Pa., as well as a freelance writer and editor. In addition to her time in Williamsport, Ms. Lahr served as an Office Coordinator for the Bucknell Office of Civic Engagement and as a Youth Outreach Coordinator for CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps in Lewisburg, Pa., where she coordinated after-school programs for low-income children and provided ESL support in two school districts.

Cuban Baseball Federation Aligns with Little League® International to Develop Youth Baseball Throughout Cuba

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -  Little League® International announced today that the Cuban Baseball Federation (CBF) has aligned its youth baseball program for children 4 to 12 years old with Little League Baseball®. The partnership will bring Little League to the CBF’s approximately 170 local baseball programs with continued efforts to develop opportunities for youth throughout Cuba, where children can learn valuable life lessons through Little League.

Partnership will affiliate 170 Cuban youth programs for children 4 to 12 years old with Little League Baseball and include Little League International Tournament participation for 2019

Beginning with the 2019 season, Cuba will be eligible to enter the Little League International Tournament, with the winner of its country tournament advancing to the Caribbean Region Tournament for the Little League Baseball division. The 2019 Caribbean Region Tournament will be played in Willemstad, Curacao from July 12-21.

Send-off Celebration for the PA Delegation of Special Olympics USA Traveling to the World Games in Abu Dhabi Set for the World of Little League® Museum

On Wednesday, March 6, 2019, the World of Little League® Museum and Official Store in South Williamsport, Pa., will host 17 Special Olympics Pennsylvania athletes, coaches and staff for a send-off celebration prior to their departure for the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. Send-off activities, taking place from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., will feature a brief program with special guests, a group museum and stadium tour, lunch, and police escort for the delegation heading to the Newark Liberty International Airport.

The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be held from March 14-21, 2019 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where more than 7,000 athletes from over 170 countries will compete in 24 different individual and team sports. Special Olympics USA will send a 313-member delegation to represent the United States, comprised of 216 athletes, 63 coaches and approximately 34 delegation members who support team operations. Team members will compete in 18 of the 24 sports offered: athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, cycling, equestrian, football (soccer), golf, gymnastics – artistic, gymnastics—rhythmic, open water swimming, powerlifting, sailing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, and volleyball.
